Legal Requirements

Getting married in Turkey is a very simple process…when you have our Professional team assist you.

GREAT NEWS FOR MARRYING IN TURKEY!

Please note the legal procedure for UK nationals marrying in Turkey has been simplified as of 1 March 2014.  Couples are no longer required to source Certificates of No Impediment or travel to the UK Embassy in İzmir.  Your documents can now be sourced online in the UK, prior to your arrival in Turkey.  Documents required to marry in Turkey are:

Passport (with a minimum of 6 months expiry)

4x passport sized photos (each)

Affidavit of Marital Status – available from UK Government website (stamped by Public Notary & certified by Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) in UK). DOWNLOAD FORM HERE.

https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad/y/turkey/uk/uk_england/partner_british/opposite_sex

You will be required to scan and email your documents to us at least 4 weeks prior to your wedding (nb. Affidavit of Marital Status is valid for 180 days from date of Certification).

  1. As of January 2014 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) will discontinue its service of depositing foreign marriage and civil partnership certificates with the General Register Offices in the UK. Your Turkish Marriage Certificate is a globally recognised legal document with full English translation.

IMPORTANT:

YOU MUST BE IN TURKEY AT LEAST 2 BUSINESS DAYS (Mon-Fri) BEFORE YOUR WEDDING AND 2 BUSINESS DAYS AFTER.  This is to ensure sufficient time to lodge your documents (in person) with the Turkish Authorities prior to your wedding and organise your Wedding day with our planners. After your wedding we are required to lodge your marriage documentation and order your wedding photos.

For full details of the legal process or if you have further questions please contact one of our wedding planners

NB: The above information relates to procedures for UK Citiziens, however as laws differ between countries, please contact the local Registry Office in your country of origin to obtain information regarding legal requirements for non-UK countries.  It is essential you ensure all documents are correct prior to your arrival in Turkey as no mistakes can be rectified after your arrival and we take no responsibility for the validity of your documentation.
